The economic problems are so long gone in Venezuela that debts have become a real threat to the country. The value of the currency decreases rapidly and inflation is going up. Foreign imports have ceased, resulting in empty shelves in stores around the country. Read more
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has released six opposition leaders from jail.
Among the six political prisoners was Nikolai Statkevich, who was imprisoned alongside nine other opposition leaders after running against Lukashenko in Belarus’ 2010 presidential election.

On 14-17 July, 2015, Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation, in co-operation with International Republican Institute (IRI), organized two conferences with local female politicians from Georgia. The participants who came from different regions of the country, and represented the opposition party, United National Movement (UNM), gathered in the Georgian village, Chakvi to discuss strategies for the future.
Moldova is going through a difficult time. Corruption scandals have followed each other, forming a government has failed repeatedly since the parlamentary elections in November 2014, and nearly one billion dollar, fifteen percent of Moldova’s GDP, has disappeared from one of the country’s banks, questioning the role of the Moldovan political elite. July 2-3 and 4-5, the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation invited women representatives from its co-operation organisation United National Movement (UNM) to two conferences in Sighnaghi, Georgia. The purpose of the conferences was to discuss and to encourage the construction and strengthening of a women network in the region of Kakheti. On June 12-14, Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation arranged a conference in Prevall, near Prizren in Kosovo for young political activists, focusing on how to combat corruption and how to promote economic growth. The conference was arranged in co-operation with Youth of Democratic League of Kosovo (FRLDK) which is the youth organisation of Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and co-operation partner of the Foundation. Legislative elections will be held in Venezuela later this year, on December 6. The coalition of democrat opposition parties has grown stronger in recent opinion polls. After the announcement, the jailed opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez decided to end his hunger strike, after 30 days. In a letter read by his wife Lilian Tintori, he wrote that “Hunger strikes are a method of resistance. We lift the strike but the fight continues.”

The BPF Party supported nomination of Tatsiana Karatkevich, who is a “Tell the Truth” campaign activist and Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada) member, as candidate for president in the 2015 presidential elections. She would like to run as candidate for president not from a single organization, but from the whole “People’s Referendum” coalition.
Next presidential elections must take place no later than on November 20, 2015.
