Education
|
Education within the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation framework is primarily conducted in two ways. Abroad, education is carried out in cooperation with partner organizations and parties in project countries (see projects). In Sweden, anyone interested in the work of the Foundation is welcome to participate in activities such as seminars etc. Recurring Education “Principles for a Free Society”, authored by Dr. Nigel Ashford for the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation is the most read of the Foundation’s publications. It is, for example, used as study material in the annual Summer School. This is arranged in Sweden and attended by youths from east and central Europe. The goal is to expose the connections between rule of law, individual freedom, market economy, human rights and a democratic social order. Education of Writers For the first time in 2008 the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation arranged a seminar for writers with a special interest in the field of foreign policy. Applicants had to submit a portfolio of their work and a group of participants was selected. These writers have participated in a series of classes and finished their education in 2009. In May of 2009, a second group was accepted and a third group met for the first time in March of 2010. An alumni network of all groups of writers has been launched. This group will meet with politicians a few times a year to discuss foreign policy.
