November 6-10 and 13-17 the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation held conferences on ideology for politically active youth from the Balkans and the Eastern Neighborhood in Nynäshamn, south of Stockholm. The basis of the seminars was the book Principles for a Free Society by Dr Nigel Ashford and the lectures were led by leading opinion makers and Swedish politicians. The conferences aim to strengthen the ideological base among the participants with emphasis on understanding of democracy, human rights and market economy.

September 22-24, party representatives from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia and Sweden, met in Sarajevo to discuss Balkan’s EU-integration.

The discussions focused on the refugee crisis and the management of the Balkan route as well as how to increase opportunities in the region. The economic integration of the region was also discussed. The women´s round table conference aims to create stronger networks in the region and to increase the participation of women in politics and leading positions.

September 9-11, the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation hosted a conference in Jahorina, Bosnia & Herzegovina, for local politicians from the centre-right party PDP. Kristoffer Tamsons, Chairman of the traffic committee in Stockholm County Council, took part in the conference as a trainer and described his own experiences from Swedish local and regional politics, focusing on the importance of policy development and reforms.

June 29-July 1, the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation in cooperation with the centre-right party PDP in Bosnia-Herzegovina hosts two trainings for youth and women policy makers. The trainings will focus on political communication, with lecturers from Sweden and the region.

On February 15, Bosnia-Herzegovina formally applied for EU-membership. The Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation has a long tradition of supporting European integration and coalition building in the country, and hosted on June 14 a seminar on the further integration process.

Invited to the seminar was Branislav Borenovic, President of the Party of Democratic Progress (PDP) and Chariman of the Committee for European integration and regional co-operation in the National Assembly of Republika Srpska. He presented his perspective on the latest developments. PDP is a coalition partner in the current government of Bosnia-Herzegovina. The seminar was moderated by Diana Janse, Senior Foreign Policy Adviser of the Moderate Party.

A new report describing Bosnia-Herzegovina’s road to European integration, published by the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation, was released at the seminar.

On December 3-5, the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation invited representatives and leaders for the Moderate party’s sister organisations in the Balkans as well as other organisations and politicians concerned to a round-table conference in Stockholm. The red thread throughout the discussions were the recent developments in the region and the outlook for continuous European integration of the Balkan states into the European Union.
