March 24-25, the Swedish Moderate Party hosts its annual conference for local and regional politicians, in Karlstad, Sweden. The Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation will during the conference host a seminar on political developments in Europe’s East and how to counter the influence of authoritarian regimes.
Maia Sandu, Party leader of the centre-right Action and Solidarity Party of Moldova, and candidate in last year’s presidential elections in which she ended up in second place with 47,89 % of the votes, will present her views on current trends in the region. Sandu, a Harvard university graduate, served as Moldova’s minister for education 2012-2015 and has a background at the World Bank.
Gunnar Hökmark, Member of the European Parliament for the Moderate Party with a long record in support of freedom in Eastern Europe, will discuss how policy makers in Sweden and Europe can support democracy and reforms in EU’s Eastern neighbourhood.
The seminar takes place 09.30-10.15 on Saturday, March 25.
