New Book about the Baltic States

On February 27, a brand new book Baltisk Befrielse –  svenska insatser för friheten will be launched. The author Ambassador Krister Wahlbäck writes mainly about Sweden’simportance to the liberation of the Baltic countries’ . In a postscript Peeter Luksep tells the story behind the  Monday meetings held at Norrmalmstorg. At the  launch Krister Wahlbäck and Peeter Luksep talks about then and now and how it all came to happened.

Writers Workshop

This is the third and last part of a writers education organized by the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation. Speakers on the Friday will be Robert Andrew, Deputy Polictical Counselor at the US Embassy in Stockholm hand his colleague Ian Bald, an expert on American presidential elections. On Saturday February 18 the participants will visit Svenska Dagbladet and editorial editor Claes Arvidsson.

Youth Conference in Ankara

February 17-19, Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation in cooperation with the Turkish think-tank Association for Liberal Thinking (ALT) arranges an ideology conference for students in Ankara. The seminars will be based on Nigel Ashfords book “Principles for the Free Society” and will treat subjects as human rights, democracy and tolerance. The conference will be moderated by Mr. Thomas Gür, senior advisor for Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation.

A study visit to Brussels is organized by the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation in cooperation with VMRO-DPMNE, Macedonia. Members of the VMRO-DPMNE will study the EU and its institutions.

On an annual basis the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation is hosting round table conferences with politicians from the Balkans. This year’s theme is “EU Enlargement and South East Europe”.

9 February, 2012

On February 9, Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation and Olof Palme International Center arranges a one day seminar in cooperation with the Swedish embassy i Ankara. The discussions will focus on the political conditions for further reforms, questions concerning rights and legal frameworks.

From Sweden, MPs from the Moderate Party and the Social democrats will participate in the discussions, as will a number of Turkish constitutional experts, journalists, think-tankers and politicians from various parties.
