As the totalitarian rule in Azerbaijan continues its oppression on the country’s democratic forces and imprisonment of journalists valuing the freedom of speech, the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation arranged on December 3-4 a conference on democratic and ideological values in Baku. The conference targeted members of the National Independence Party of Azerbaijan (NIPA) from all around the country.

Lecturers at the conference were Mr Patrik Strömer, Secretary General of the Swedish Snus Manufacturers, and Ms Evelina Lorentzon, former Secretary General of the Confederation of Conservative and Liberal Students. Topics discussed at the conference were based on the principles in our study book Principles for a Free Society, which every one of the participants received a copy of. Mr Arzukhan Alizada, Secretary General of the NIPA, gave a guest lecture at the conference as well, briefing the participants on the current political challenges in Azerbaijani politics.
