Wednesday, January 27, the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation arranged the seminar Developments in Georgia – Challenges for Western integration. Two representatives of United National Movement (UNM), Georgia’s largest opposition party, described the recent years political developments in Georgia, the challenges for stronger Western integration and the situation for the opposition in the upcoming parliamentary elections in October this year.
Zurab Tchiaberashvili, UNM Secretary for Civil Society and former Minister of Healthcare, talked about successful reforms implemented during UNM’s time in government, the peaceful change of government after the 2012 elections and the politics of the current government. Tinatin Bokuchava, Member of Parliament, described the violence and harassment suffered by UNM, independent media and minorities. Afterwards there was time for questions from the participants of the seminar.
The seminar was moderated by Diana Janse, Senior Foreign Policy Advisor of the Moderate Party.
