February 25-27, the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation hosted its fifth Regional Women’s Round-Table Conference with representatives from the Foundation’s co-operation organisations in the Balkans. The conference was held in Stockholm and the purpose was to discuss Balkan’s integration to the European Union.
Invited were female representatives and members of parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Spain and Sweden. The chairman of the Foundation, Mr Göran Lennmarker, opened the conference with an inspiring speech on the challenges standing ahead the region. Topics discussed at the conference were among others security policy in the 21st century in the light of the Crimea crisis and the expansion of the ISIS, corruption fighting, and the importance of including minorities in decision-making.
Key-note speakers were Sweden’s former minister for foreign affairs, Margaretha af Ugglas, who spoke about the importance of promoting European order of stability and peace, and Sweden’s former minister for international development cooperation, Ms Gunilla Carlsson, with a speech on promoting transparency and fighting corruption.
