November 29 – December 2, Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation arranged together with SDA Academy a youth conference with youth from Party of Democratic Action (SDA). The conference took place in Fojnica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the topic was campaign and communication.
Speakers at the conference were Fredrik Saweståhl, Mayor of Tyresö municipality in Sweden and Håkan Filipsson, director public affairs at the Greater Stockholm Fire Brigade.
Lectures interspersed with practical workshops, in which the participants could train and face real life scenarios and put theory into practice. Mr. Saweståhl, with a genuine background in local campaigning, spoke about the importance of knowing how to tackle media, how to build a local campaign from idea to action and post campaign governance. Mr. Filipsson on the other hand, with a solid background in public relations, put weight on campaign strategies, message design and the art of running campaigns during general elections.
The conference was additionally attended by the Secretary General of SDA, Mr. Amir Zukić, who held the opening remarks and by Prof. Dr. Refik Šećibović, who held a guest lecture about SDA in Bosnian politics. The conference successfully inspired the participants into promoting their values and politics among the voters during election times.
This was the second step in a four-step programme customised for the Balkan region by the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation to help the ex-Yugoslavian countries in their transition into a modern European state with modern European values. The Foundation has two co-operation partners in Bosnia and Herzegovina; SDA in the entity of Federation Bosnia and Herzegovina and PDP in the Serbian dominated entity of Republika Srpska.
