April 4-6, the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation organised three conferences in Baku, in cooperation with the National Independence Party of Azerbaijan (NIPA). The country’s authoritarian regime seems to continue holding a tight grip of the country, prior to the presidential election in October this year.
The first seminar, on coalition building and the road to democracy, gathered a dozen of the political parties in the opposition. A number of opposition parties are today trying to establish alliances and cooperation with other parties prior to the election.
On the second day, regional and local politicians from NIPA were gathered for a conference on local political work and how to build a good internal structure prior to an election.
The youth organisation of the party gathered on the last day for a conference on how to attract members to an organisation, how to plan and organise political campaigns and the importance of democratic principles in decision-making.
